Frequently Asked Questions
Silverline Kennels is a small, home-based preservation breeder dedicated exclusively to the Havanese breed. Each litter is carefully planned with the goal of preserving the breed’s health, temperament, and structure according to the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) standard. Only one litter is raised at a time, in the home, so every puppy receives personalized care, socialization, and attention.
A preservation breeder focuses on maintaining and improving the breed’s original characteristics — health, temperament, and structure — through careful selection and research. This includes studying pedigrees, performing extensive health testing, and breeding only dogs that conform to the CKC breed standard.
Every breeding dog in the Silverline program is screened according to the Canadian Kennel Club and OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) recommendations.
Health testing includes clearances for hereditary concerns such as:
Chondrodystrophy with Intervertebral Disc Disease (CDDY/IVDD)
Multifocal Retinopathy 1 (MR1)
Von Willebrand Disease 1 (vWD1)
Dogs are kept in excellent condition, receive regular veterinary care, and are bred only when in peak health.
Silverline supports and aligns with trusted canine organizations, including:
Canadian Kennel Club (CKC - Current Member)
These connections reflect Silverline’s ongoing commitment to education, ethical breeding, and the well-being of dogs in Canada.
