Health Standards

The dogs selected to be in my breeding program meet the Canadian Kennel Club’s recommended health standards and are carefully screened, and cleared of hereditary concerns common to the Havanese breed.

Silverline dogs are raised as part of the family, kept in excellent physical condition, and seen regularly by trusted veterinarians. This commitment ensures that each puppy begins life with the best possible start; strong, sound, and ready to thrive in their forever home.

Chondrodystrophy with Intervertebral Disc Disease

Chondrodystrophy (CDDY) is a genetic trait seen in some breeds that results in shorter legs and an increased risk of spinal disc issues. In affected dogs, the cushioning discs between the vertebrae can harden too early, sometimes leading to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) when the disc material presses on the spinal cord.

Multifocal Retinopathy 1 (CMR1) is an inherited eye condition that can appear in puppies as young as three to four months old. It causes small areas of retinal detachment and mild eye blistering, but most affected dogs retain normal vision and lead healthy lives.

Von Willebrand Disease 1

Von Willebrand disease (vWD) is an inherited condition that affects normal blood clotting due to low levels of a protein called von Willebrand factor. Signs can range from mild to serious bleeding, especially after injury or surgery, though many dogs remain symptom-free throughout life.
